WSSC Open Show – Saturday 27th November 2004

held at The Grange Hall, Southam, near Coventry

Judge: Mr Martin Greenwood

BIS:   Rees’   Sh Ch Typica Countryman JW ShCM
RBIS & BOS:   Gately’s   Russethill Ribbon Lace JW
BPIS:   Pickles’   Menstonia Millenaire
Judge’s comments: ‘I was very honoured to be asked to judge the parent club show, with a super entry and very nice to see excellent temperaments. Although a bit worried about muzzles as they are getting very snipey and not square as stated in the breed standard. I was also concerned about second thighs; an awful lot of dogs weren’t in hard condition at all. Some dogs that were presented well & trimmed to perfection were disappointing when I went over them.’

DOG CLASSES
Judge’s comments: ‘I would like to thank the Parent Club for the invitation to judge dogs at the 34th Championship show. I am still disappointed in the heads of the dogs. One of the things that is so special in the breed is the appealing expression which should catch the eye immediately. However there are far too many narrow heads with long muzzles and round eyes. The dogs today are far rangier than when I first started in the breed in the mid seventies. There are also far too many gay tails which seem to be becoming the norm. Feet are also failing as few exhibits had firm cat-like feet. My co-judge and I agreed on all the final awards with BIS awarded to John Thirlwell’s Sh Ch Ferndel Maverick, RBIS Honor Harrison’s Sh Ch Ferndel Storyteller for Glenbows, BOS Lesley and Graham Tain’s Taimere’s Thornbird and BP John Thirlwell’s Ferndel Parody. ‘

Judge’s comments: ‘I was pleased to be asked to judge this show, having first judged the Breed in 1968. Some quality exhibits, but type varied considerably and movement generally was disappointing. Mouths were all satisfactory, and in most cases presentation was good. Generally I thought the dogs were superior to the bitches. A lovely atmosphere and I certainly enjoyed my day.’
