WSSC Open Show – Sunday 25th November 2007

held at Hatton Park Village Hall, near Warwick

Judge: Mrs Charmaine Birse (Ribbondale)

BIS & BB:   Rees’   Coedybrain Carys at Typica JW
RBIS & BD:   Rees’   Ch Typica Goldigger JW ShCM
BPIS:   Tews’   Pamicks Miss Holly Hocks

Judge’s comments: ‘Although it was in a new venue the show seemed to run like clockwork, thanks to the very organised committee and the excellent, hard working steward. The committee made me feel very welcome and even organised an intimate lunch with my steward in the broom cupboard! When judging I like to find my exhibits in fit, well muscled condition, this is the only way to make the very most of show condition and movement. For the most part, this was the case. I was especially pleased with the fit condition of the younger classes. Temperaments were very good, there was no nervousness at all, mouths were excellent to acceptable, the breed suffers somewhat with short upper arms which does affect front movement, some spreading feet, tail carriage is improving, which is just as well with present legislation. I so enjoyed going over every exhibit, thank you to all.’

DOG CLASSES
Judge’s comments: ‘ Thank you for a super entry. It was a challenging day, but I was happy with the winning dogs. The temperature in the room rose as the day progressed and this affected the attitude and movement of some good dogs. I found, several dogs were long in the back and loin region. (Breed standard states “compact body”) so, on examination they did not feel correct. “Structural balance”, is essential for efficient movement to enable equal extension in front and rear quarters. If ratio: height V length is not equal, it affects the normal harmonious movement e.g. giving rise to over reaching of rear quarters.Spring of rib was missing in some mature dogs, as was lack of fore-chest in others. As your judge I tried hard to prioritise type, conformation, quality and temperament in my decisions.

Judge’s comment: ‘The dogs were now feeling the heat and temperatures were rising by the hour. Attitude and movement of the dogs began to deteriorate – so I had to find a balance between good dogs and good movement. Seasoned dogs were salivating excessively and lacked drive. In “perfect conditions” the line up may have been different.’

BITCH CLASSES
Judge’s comments: ‘I had been anticipating this day for a long time and when I received details of my entry, 98 bitches making 132 entries, I was staggered! On the day, it was not just quantity, it was quality as well – in depth. I found no bad mouths, although a couple were verging on level bites. My final line up of unbeaten bitches pleased me greatly, quite even and typy and I feel that with these bitches, the breed is in good hands for the future.I would like to thank the Members for voting for me, and the Club for welcoming me and making my day so enjoyable, with a lovely present to top it all off. ‘
